"FOR GOD AND COUNTRY"
SAYREVILLE, NEW JERSEY
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation, and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. -From the American Legion Mission Statement

Did you know...
Sayreville was one of the first communities in the nation to honor its veterans of World War I with a Monument.
Built in 1919-20 by local men, with local materials, the monument was joined in 1946 by a complementary structure built to honor over 1,500 of Sayreville's men who fought in the Second World War.
